I am saddened to see so many able and willing Pastors that are now castoffs.  I too was cast off.  The Senior Pastor hired his relatives and when they didn’t do thier job, it stopped me from completing my job.  I was not a relative so the blame came to me.

I now have started a ministry of helping churches grow.  I was with a church that was a plant and grew to over 2000 in 9 years.  I havd found that even though I do not charge small churches (except to get me there), they are still mistrusting.  I want nothing from them but to be concidered as a mission field when thier church grows.  I have been met with a stone wall.  I guess they want to stay at 30 people. Maybe they think i want thier chuch. I don’t. I don’t know where all the protectiveness and mistrust came from or why churches started treating Pastors so badly.  All I know is that God has given us a calling and it is up to him to fullfill it.  You are all still important and have a place.  Just chaulk off the bad experiences as people are buttheads and we are called to serve buttheads.  Hope to see you all and Pastor with you some day.

I “left the ministry” because I realized, via intimacy with the LORD and unbiased study of the Word that most of what the organized church deems as “ministry” is not.

It is time we leave behind all traditions of men and seek to know our true identity as the Boy of Christ.

I am a “full time pastor”...which is a ridiculous statement considering that the New Testament shows no distinction between a ‘social’ class of Christian called Clergy and Laity.  Those terms were made up by a man named Clement of Rome; who was a pagan and even after his “conversion” to Christianity, still practiced Pagan rituals.  This distinction was only perpetuated and amplified by Constantine.  Today’s ‘office’ of pastor stifles and limits who the body of Christ should be.  I believe that most pastors leave “the ministry” due to the fact that they finally realized that no one person can sport all of the hats that a present day pastor is expected to wear.
As far as paying a pastor or clergy goes...Cyprian of Carthage was the first Christian writer to mention the practice of financially supporting the clergy (not Jesus).  He argued that just as the Levites were supported by the “tithe”, so the Christian clergy should be supported by the “tithe”. But this is misguided thinking. Today, the Levitical system has been abolished. We are all priests now. So if a priest demands a tithe, then all Christians should tithe to one another.  I believe this is significant because once you have a “minister/Pastor” who is paid, he/she now feels obligated to be a people pleaser...his meal ticket!  This also elevates a pastor above the rest of God’s people. It creates a clerical caste that turns the living body of Christ into a business!  All in all, I have a serious longing to be a part of an organic Christian community that functions in gift and not “professional office”...I dont know about you but these are some of the reasons that I have considered leaving...not out of my love loss for God, but rather my love loss for an institutionalized religious organization called “church”.
