300 Ways to Enjoy Toast

As Nacho Libre said to Sister Encarnación, "I was wondering if you would like to join me in my quarters this night... for some toast." I was thinking, maybe we take toast for granted. I mean, what's better than a good piece of toast? I was so excited to find a website titled "300 Ways to Enjoy Toast". That said, here are some ways that I plan on skipping...

21.  Topped with butter and slices of bacon

24.  Topped with baked beans - common in England and Ireland where baked beans are a common breakfast side dish

36.  Topped with applesauce

74.  Topped with Spam

144.  Topped with hummus AND cottage cheese

184.  Topped with bananas and shredded mozzarella cheese

254.  Topped with cheese wiz and condensed cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup

299.  Topped with ricotta cheese and orange marmalade

I think I may just stick with butter and jam afterall.

    Mmm - toast topped with baked beans - yes, yes, yes! Beans on toast, as we call it, is indeed common in the UK, and not just at breakfast: in fact, it’s much more common as a lunchtime or teatime snack.

    We came to France as missionaries just over a year ago, and were horrified to discover that there’s no such thing as baked beans here! My sister came to the rescule when she came to visit and brought a pack of 24 tins. We now stock up each time we go back to the UK.

    I will point out that in order to get the full effect, you need to put plenty of butter or margarine on the toast before pouring on the beans. Some people also like to melt some cheese into the sauce the beans are in first.

    It’s funny how it can be the silliest things that you miss most when far from home!

    Mmmmm, toast. I’ll take mine with applebutter please? er wait… better make that lite toast. That’s it. That way I can have the waffles slathered in butter and maple syrup, three eggs scrambled, biscuits with country gravy, two strips of bacon, two pieces of sage sausage, and five silver dollar pancakes. Coffee with Vanilla Nut creamer and two sugars.

    Oh, wait. You’re right. I do take toast for granted. And this has sounded more like an add for “placeyourfavoritebreakfasteateryhere”......

    You’re absolutely right - this Scottish girl for one misses her beans on toast.  You Americans have no idea what you’re missing because your baked beans are disgusting compared to ours.  When I got married and moved to the states I was also horrified to make this discovery.  What’s even better is to melt Scottish cheddar on top of that.  Oh my goodness is my mouth watering.  I’m gg home for the first time in 5 years this week for a visit and that’s another culinary delight to add to my list, right along with fish ‘n’ chips (I don’t care how many American restaurants try to duplicate this- they can’t), toasted cheese on Scottish plain bread, square sausage and last but not least the best Indian food in the world found in Scottish Indian restaurants, oh don’t forget steak pie .... I’m sorry I’m gg on but I’m just so excited I can hardly contain myself!
