A few days ago we had a ministry team of students to our church. While they were staying at our home, My daughter lost her precious “Scooby Doo” Blanket. We thought some of the students may have inadvertently taken it with them. It was a HUGE disaster. My daughter’s tears wear seemingly unending. Her sense of security was gone - she didn’t want to go to sleep without it. Her world was over!
We did find the blanket a couple days later in our house. My daughter was thrilled and she wouldn’t let the blanket out of her site! It was cherished.
It was a contrasting week! The students cherished what God was doing in their lives and my five-year old cherished Scooby Doo! Now my daughter can’t be blamed of course - she’s just five! BUT it was a marvelous contrast of the goal - not just of a parent but of a Youth Pastor?
When was the last time you put thought into your “product”? What is the ultimate goal of your youth ministry? For Ours - the goal is “To produce fully functional disciples of Christ.” I’ve put a lot of thought into this!
We want our young people to live out their own faith. The true test will be if they are able to stand in their faith when they leave our ministry after the six short years I have with them? BUT simply standing in the faith is not enough! We want them to live it - to share it - to be able to give a reason for what they believe when they are asked - and living lives that will cause others to ask. That’s to goal - one that’s easy to forget in the midst of a Friday night event where we’re having a lot of fun.
What’s the goal of your ministry? Do you have one? Do you know what you’re aiming for? If not, I would suggest your youth ministry might become a “Blanket Loss.”

Our mission at our church states our goal quite nicely. “Reaching People, Changing Lives.” We do the first part, God does the second. It informs everything we do.

Glad she found the blanket I have been there with my child and I know how they love thier security blankets.
We do the first part
Just as important as knowing where countries are, students should know what rights are and how they should not be taken for granted, especially in comparison to young people their own age around the world (or in remote Australia).
