Britney Spear’s Under Orders:  Read Your Bible an Hour Every Day

Orginally published on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 6:49 AM
by Todd Rhoades

According to a UK entertainment website, Britney Spears' dad has issued strict backstage conditions to keep his daughter on the straight and narrow. Top of the list is that she must read the Bible for one hour a day.

Evidently, Britney's new music video was shot out of her father's eye... it's creating quite the controversy, and not just in the Christian community. Please know I post this with a warning... it contains graphic images and the title of the song is a play on a four letter word. Reportedly, it is starting to get a good amount of radio airplays.

Two things to comment on today...

1.  Sensationalistic as it may be, I do hope that Britney is taking her father’s advice.  The Word of God has the power to change Britney; and an hour a day would put many of us (me included) to shame.  Would it be outrageous to pray for this young, confused girl to be captured by her reading?

2.  What do you think about this song being played on the radio?  Would you let your teenager listen to it?

Love to hear your comments…

Todd

wow, although it really doesn’t shock me, it does bother me.  I definitely wouldn’t want my kids listening to this.  It’s really sad to see the mess that her life has become, and like you, I pray that God will change her. She could have a tremendous impact on millions of young people if she really followed Christ.

Unfortunately, her relationship with her parents isn’t all that hot, from what I understand.

I wonder just how much control her dad has on her backstage time, much less any of her time, since she’s an adult.

I’m guessing that if her dad didn’t have much influence on her song choices, he’s going to have a hard time enforcing anything like this.

And Todd, it’s not outrageous at all to pray that 1) she would actually do the reading and 2) be transformed by it.  That’s my prayer, anyway!

do we really need to ask and blog about if this is appropriate for the radio or for kids to listen to?  of course not.

You have to at least give credit that it was a bit more creative than the masking that was used in the 80/90’s. They play “come on feel the noise” and “unbelievable” on the radio and the actual word is in those songs.

I had not heard the song until now but I did hear about it prior to this, from my wife actually.

My children won’t be listening to it, we are already having the discussions with our kids about the music they listen to. I think my parents failed in letting me listen to whatever I wanted to, but I also think making my kids only listen to ‘christian’ music is just as big of a mistake.

For those of you that don’t get it or don’t understand why Todd posted it, just consider it a prayer request for Britney.
