An email from Jonathan Falwell this week asks people to contribute $30 to help combat Swine Flu. Here is part of the email received by the Dallas News Religion Blog:
In our Virginia warehouse we have ready over $3.5 million in medical supplies and more arriving from companies donating supplies to help defeat this virus. This vast amount of emergency medical supplies that have been donated to us, such as medical gloves, masks, coveralls and other medical supplies - is precisely what medical experts say is needed to help prevent the spread of this deadly disease.
We have an extensive local church and missionary network in place to distribute these emergency medical supplies. All we need are the funds to pay for transportation and logistical costs to put these supplies into the hands of those who need them most. You can help distribute these needed items with a gift of just $30 now."
The headline of the Dallas News post asks the question: Sleazy opportunism or empowering charitable giving?
What do you think?
