Mrs. Osteen Fined by the FAA and Sued by a Continental Flight Attendant

HOUSTON -- AP -- A Continental Airline flight attendant filed a lawsuit this week saying she was assaulted on a flight by the wife of nationally known pastor and author Joel Osteen. The Federal Aviation Administration fined Victoria Osteen $3,000 for interfering with a crew member during a Christmas vacation flight to Vail, Colo., on Dec. 19. Osteen paid the fine in August to put the issue to rest, her attorney Rusty Hardin told the Houston Chronicle. She believes "very, very strongly" that she did nothing wrong, Hardin said. But Sharon Brown, a flight manager on that trip, said in her civil suit that Osteen assaulted her. Brown is seeking unspecified damages for past and future medical care, emotional pain, mental anguish, suffering and humiliation...

The FAA report states that Osteen asked another flight attendant to clean a liquid on her first-class seat armrest. When that attendant said she would get another flight attendant, Osteen grabbed a second flight attendant and took her to the seat, the report said. The second attendant said she would call cleaning personnel and headed to the cockpit, the FAA said. Osteen followed her and came across Brown, whom she pushed and elbowed in the left breast in an attempt to get to the cockpit, according to the report.

The flight attendants asked to have Osteen removed from the plane; she and her family left voluntarily. Osteen denies the charges of assault.

“Victoria Osteen never assaulted her,” Hardin said. “This flight attendant just flipped out. I can’t answer why. The only thing I can say is that Victoria Osteen is the last person in the world who would assault anyone.”

Joel Osteen preaches at Lakewood Church in Houston, where more than 35,000 people flock each weekend. His book “Your Best Life Now” has sold more than 4 million copies, and his weekly television address is broadcast nationally and internationally.

“Victoria Osteen sent a letter out to her congregation saying she acted in a Christian-like manner,” said Brown’s lawyer, Reginald McKamie. “We’re going to let a jury of 12 people from Harris County decide whether she acted in a Christian-like manner.”

TODD’S TWO CENTS:
For crying out loud:  past and future medical care, emotional pain, mental anguish, suffering, and humiliation.  Excuse me; I have a few lawsuits to file.  That is just ridiculous.

I think that someone is gold-digging…

There has GOT to be a way I can sue somebody… This is the way to go! I gots to get me some MONEY!

What I’d really like to know is why the Future Farmers of America levied the fine. I thought the Federal Aviation Administration usually handled this type of thing. ; )

Guess that’s part of what happens when you move up the ladder of visibility… that target on your back just gets bigger and bigger but in some cases the target is a giant $ sign.  Reading this post caused me mental suffering… shouldn’t Todd be liable for that? Christmas is just around the corner ya know and my kids could sure use some new toys.  smile Just kidding.

I heard her lawyer is Rick Warreniski who wrote Purpose Driven Lawsuits.

No matter what Lakewood’s lawyer says, I’m more prone to take Brown’s side in this case since Osteen was fined by the FAA.

Despite having 30,000 people at the church, most people in Houston think of Victoria as “that crazy (blonde) on the plane”.  She was fined for her actions last December and was kicked off the plane.  (I can’t believe that Continental airlines employees are willing to quickly throw people out of first class in the middle of the holiday rush without due provocation.)

If Victoria “did nothing wrong” then she wouldn’t have been kicked off of the plane.

Hey, Tom… you live up to your name!

I’m not saying that she shouldn’t have been fined.  But to be sued civilly?  Come on…

--past and future medical care:  did Ms. Brown suffer some broken bones or something?

--emotional pain, mental anguish, suffering and humiliation:  give me a break.  It’s all in a day’s work for many of us… why should flight attendants get a free ride.

All I’m saying is… ‘get over it’.  Maybe quit that flight attendant job and go into church leadership.  But then, you’d really need a good lawyer.

I think the lawsuit is bogus… but really, why didn’t she just get a napkin and clean the spill herself??  I don’t want to criticise the woman because I’ve never met her - she may be a very sweet person.  But just because you can fly first-class does it mean you can’t lift a finger for yourself? Alternatively, if the flight attendant said she would get someone to do it - why not just patiently wait for that?  She knows she’s a well-known face in Houston, you’re just asking for trouble if you start being demanding.

I wasn’t there so this is all hypothetical… but I’ve seen people get really short tempered when they feel like they’re surrounded by incompetence.  If Mrs. Osteen felt like the flight attendants were ignoring her, and if she’d been having a bad day, I could imagine her flipping out and being like “here! come look at this mess and clean it up!” Now of course, that’s not acceptable behavior, and it’s flipping out… but then throw in an accidental and unfortunate elbow in the breast, and flight attendant person thinks ‘first class whiner… i’m gonna git me rich!’
Or in other words, it strikes me as possible that Mrs. Osteen grossly overreacted, and that the flight attendant responded in kind.
As to what actually happened, I have no idea.  It just sucks that it has to be so visible you know?  Serves as a reminder to those of us who are in positions of authority that we need to be extra careful and extra gentle, since we are more visible.
    My two cents.

If this were just about anyone but her we would have no story.  People are people, they mess up and sometimes they do not even fess up when it happens.  We shoudn’t judge her, maybe is was just not a best life now moment.  I think I am glad that there are not cameras on me all the time, cause I would be next weeks topic.

What a burden it is to be a religious celebrity.  I personally reserve my pity for the destitute and powerless.  Look, if you want to perform on a public stage, you have to behave in socially gracious ways in public whether or not you are a Christian.  Why was it so hard for Mrs. Osteen to apologize for making a scene?  The point here is not the lawsuit from the flight attendant but an egotisical defense of behavior that was more than a shade shy of exemplary.  I do not mean to beat up on Mrs. Osteen but please, let’s help keep these high profile folks accountable to acknowledge personal misbehavior.  What a greater witness that would be than to stubbornly refuse to humbly apologize and go forward.  If they put her off the plane, she was in the wrong.  The lawsuit is just a sidebar.

What a greater wittnes still if we recognized her humanity and didn’t judger her.

Not judging. Humility and patience at the time would have prevented being ejected from the flight. Apology immediately after the fact probably would have avoided the lawsuit.  These things are taught in the secular workplace. We could take a lesson.

My wife is a flight attendant and I am a Worship Arts Pastor for a church in Denver. My wife has worked for the airlines for 18 years and has seen it all. A close friend and co-worker went down in one of the flights a couple of years ago.  My take on this is that Mrs. Osteen acted inappropriately and very obviously not “above reproach”. Trust me, they do not just arbitrarily kick people off of planes. They do it when they believe that it is in the best interest of safety for all concerned on that flight.  I think of Courtney Love in London....... Patience and humility goes a long way in this type of situation where there typically 100+ other passengers on that plane....she wasn’t the only one that needed attention I assure you. There is protocol that the flight attendants follow especially in this day and age where horrible things have happened on flights. The fact that she attempted or even seemed to attempt to get to the cockpit was enough to get her tossed off the plane for obvious reasons. Mrs. Osteen needs pull her head out of the “it’s all about me” space she is in and carefully consider how this looks to the rest of the non-believing world. She must know that as a Christian (a nationally known leader no less) and in her position of prominence and privilege (1st class is not cheap) that more is required of her. I don’t think that every situation demands a lawsuit to be sure.....but, you must understand from a flight attendants point of view, they have “been under attack” literally and figuratively over the past few years. This isn’t about the lawsuit and whether or not it is right, it’s a testimony to us as believers as to what we look and act like to a largely non- believing world. We aren’t looking good if we can’t even behave at Christmas time (isn’t that one of our “high” holidays?) on a vacation flight in front of our family and the rest of the world. It’s no wonder our churches are closing at exponential rates.

Anyone can sue.  Anyone can accuse.  The lawsuit proves nothing.  But the fine, and the fact she was kicked off the plane—sorry, but Victoria must have gone way over the edge.  The idea that someone is going to be kicked off an airplane, delaying the flight, and then fined $3000—and she actually acted appropriately?  I don’t think so.  People just don’t get kicked off airplanes all that often.  This was not a conspiracy against the Osteens.  Victoria got booted off the plane for reasons other than a misunderstanding, or a flipped out flight attendant.  I think the most bothersome thing of all is that the Osteens have lied about this conduct—but then again, when you lie with a smile you can get away with it.

Ok...not judging Victoria here...let’s understand that right off the bat.  Just an observation of personality types here.  When the Osteens were on Larry King Live last week, it did not take a rocket scientist or even someone with 20/20 vision to see who the assertive party...the more agressive party...is in that relationship.  Joel, no disrespect intended, seemed to have such a hard time nailing down a 100% confident answer.  But, Victoria reminded me about an old joke about Primitive Baptist preachers.....not always right, but never in doubt. — Again, let me close by saying that I am not judging whether or not Victoria is guilty of this accusation.  But, for all the rest of us out here, if you’re gonna blow it and open up a can of insanity...then first class on a plane ain’t exactly the place to do it.

Well if someone acts that way who has that much money that is gained by giving a cheesy communion speech every Sunday morning, then I say go ahead and SUE!!

What do you all suppose they teach a flight attendant to do when an enraged person is storming toward the cockpit of a plane?  On second thought, what would you want the fight attendant to do?  It’s pretty obvious that her job is to stop that person at all cost.

The media loves to take something and run.  These people come from good families.  They are not trouble makers.  How many of us have lost our patience with others?  If these people were not pastors and christians there would be no media coverage of this and there would be no lawsuit.  The bible says, touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm. It scares me for the gold diggers.  I am sure the witnesses will split the money.  Not the first time people conspired against christian people.  Read your bible.  It happened over and over.  God always brings his people out on top.  Hang in there Joel and Victoria.  We are agreeing with you in prayer, and we believe your enemies will be made your footstool.  This is going to be turned for Gods glory and then the next phase of God’s blessings will be released to you and Lakewood Church.  Prayers for those who seek money from such a rediculous scheme.  Prayers for you and please realize that no one is perfect, even ministers.  He that is without sin cast the first stone. People often act insane now days.  All it takes is one lazy flight attendant to stir up another one and they stick together against someone.  Trust me it doesn’t take anything much for someone to get thrown off a plane or even to be in line at Walmart and someone go off at you if the line is held up for a price check.  Where do you think road rage comes from?  IMPATIENCE!  If Victoria was having a bad day and even a disgusted look took place without a word, if this stewardess knew who they were, there you go.  Public figures, see dollars, and hemmoraids?  I just cannot see someone excited about going on vacation slamming a stewardess against a wall, hitting her in the breast with her elbow and with others on the plane watching her, and her family, and then charging the cock pit.  OK, America, let’s use some common sense.  Someone got mad due to persistance to clean up the seat, which I would not have sit on either.  A lazy person got mad.  I asked several times in a fast food place for someone to simply clean a table so we could eat.  No one ever came.  It is aggravating that three people could be so lazy.  I cleaned my own table, and I was sure to point out before I left in a nice way that I didn’t understand why they would not clean the tables.  It is easy, they were not busy, and it is their job.  America is on too many antidepressants, among other things.  Antipressants are to be taken short term!  People don’t care that they hurt other people.  I have too much fear of God.  I would not touch this with a ten foot pole.  Leave the ministers alone that work hard, and long hours and how much does Presidents of large corporations get paid.  Joel takes no salary from the church and he and Victoria pastors 45,000 people.  Could you do that?  I am sure the good people of Lakewood will continue to stand with them just as they did his Father John, and his mother Dodie.  Good people.  I went there years ago, and I never seen such loving compassionate people and never a prejudice bone in their body.  They and the people from Lakewood Church love people from all walks of life and gave millions to missions, hurricane victums, etc. and continue to do so.  His Father started that church in a feed store with around 12 people.  Let’s be glad for the success of the church and support good people who work hard to better America and the world.  They live in a glass house.  Please lets don’t throw stones.  I pray for the flight attendants also and don’t desire to fly on such an airline that is so emotional.  Give me a break!  God help America!  It is sin sick.  The end time must be near.  Let’s all read our Bibles be repentant and be ready to meet Jesus.

First the media hits Joyce Meyer, then Kenneth Copeland and other ministers, now Victoria and Joel Osteen.  You won’t stop them.  You can’t stop God that has called these people, and the enemy is attacking them throught the media to deceive America and the world from following the only true God, and accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour.  Isn’t it amazing that Crefflo Dollar and these ministers are the ones who teach an uncomprimised gospel and are reaching the world with the gospel?  You all have many many supporters and people praying all over the world.  Hold your heads up, and as you know, If God be for us, who can be against us, as stated in the one book that gives us wisdom, peace, patience, love and makes us a better person. The Holy Bible.  Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven and we are here to tell the world that God loves us all and even our enemies.  Evil will always fight good and use good people to be deceived and do the evil to others that they do.  The media will pay for the things they do, if not here, in the hereafter if they do not ask God to forgive them.  He will forgive and he is full of compassion.  A stewardesses place is to calm a passenger down even if she were upset, which I doubt.  Professionalism would have said, Oh, let me clean that seat for you, and maam you have a great flight.  No passenger gets upset on a flight without a reason.  Stewardesses used to be hand picked and generous and curteous, and I am sure most still are.  Just about everywhere you go now, you can’t get anyone to do their jobs or do anything right.  In resturants you can ask five times and they get busy and don’t come back and fill your tea.  Our world is sitting up all night on computers and playing bad games full of sex and neglecting children and going to work irritable on antidepressants and who knows what other kind of drugs.  I had employees do this and come to work the next day so irritable that they were rude to my customers and would not change no matter how nice I was.  I refused to let someone working for me treat my customers in such a manner.  This airline should know these people were nice enough to patronize their business, and reprimand the stewardesses for lieing, and conduct themselves in old fashioned professionalism and courtesy.  This world needs a lesson in JUST BEING NICE AND NOT LAZY AND SMILING AND DOING YOUR JOB CORRECTLY.  IT WILL MAKE A PERSON FEEL BETTER TO SMILE ON THEIR JOB.  YOU CANNOT STAY ANGRY IF YOU PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AND GIVE SOME JOY TO OTHERS.  WE ALL MISS IT AND NONE OF US ARE PERFECT!  We should all strive to grow and be the best that we can be. Stop judging others and know that ministers aren’t perfect, stewardesses aren’t perfect and neither are we, and stop fighting and start encouraging each other.  There is so much anger in this world. Any judge that makes the Osteens pay in this needs to be in a mental ward.  This is rediculous!  This world needs to stop being all about money!  It’s all about how we can help people.  It will make a person feel better to be God minded and bible minded.  I pray for all concerned and that this will drop.  If so I wonder if the media would cover it.  What a sick movie star worshipping world we live in!  Thank God all of us aren’t impressed by false reports from the media, gold diggers and we don’t worship people who sin, and trust me a one world government won’t help the state America and the world is in.  Only people humbling themselves and repenting and seeking Gods face through the pages of the bible and beginning to think and do as he does.  This is our instruction manuel from the one who created us!  I can’t get enough of the encouragement from the Bible and how it makes me a better person.  Imperfect, yes I am but I can grow and it gives me hope in any situation, and it will also give us deliverance in the midst of impossible looking situations.  Victoria, your reputation isn’t ruined!  You are doing alot right to be attacked like this and you will pass the test.  Greater blessings are ahead.  Something good is about to happen!!!!!!!!

I was in line at Home Depot, needed a price check, was charged the wrong amount for merchandise and had a new, rude clerk who didn’t want to reimburse me the money when she charged me the wrong price.  There was a long line behind me.  In the garden department, and in FL it is HOT! Only one register open, of course!
A man behind me gets mad due to the price check, calls me a bitch and curses me, tries to start a fight with my husband.  We kept trying to calm him down, and he kept getting madder.  Others in line thought it was so rediculous they left and said what a rude man.  Don’t tell me people won’t lie and get mad for no reason and be too lazy to wipe a seat off and do their job, and then get mad at the person who politely asked.  Yes I got aggravated after a long while at this man and said why cause a scene, like the check out lady said.  Just go to another register inside the store if you don’t desire to wait.  This man must have been bipolar or mental.  He certainly didn’t want to wait.  We were in line first and I left with my refund where I was charged wrong.  I am thankful this man didn’t go to his car and get a gun and that God protected all of us.  He definately was mental.  Could this be the case with the stewardess who lied to the other stewardess and they caused a scene on Victoria?  We should pray for all.  .  However I doubt a family excited about going on vacation would be so upset over nothing.  Sounds more like a lazy employee who blew things out of proportion and needed money for more drugs!  LOL They know these people are wealthy.  His books are on the New York Times best seller list and excellent, might I add.  If the stewardess would read them she would realize this is an umble family, not perfect and does not fail to admit they make mistakes.  Maybe she needs to do the same, and admit her error, and the airlines.  I would never travel with this airline.  I was in customer service for years.  If a customer is aggravated, if you just remain calm, they will usually calm down.  All it takes is compassion and a little love and kindness and finding out why they are mad.  Just good customer service and professionalism.  The man in line at Home Depot got so mad, I believe due to the laziness and rudeness of the clerk that was checking us out!  Customer service classes used to teach, the customer is always right.  When this was the case, the horrible things that happen now, rarely happened when this was taught and people acted upon it, and treated people in a NICE manner, and did their jobs, smiled and were glad to help others.  Now they think they are too good to help others and they are jealous if they aren’t carrying the same kind of designer bag!  LOL

Flight attendant:  Get a life and find another way to make money.  Like stop being lazy and work for it.  Stop ganging up on your passengers, and throwing people off planes and delaying the flight over 2 hours.  Look how you have embarrased these people just wanting to go on vacation, get away and have some fun.  Not to mention what an embarrasement you have been to yourself and the airlines.  CRAZY PEOPLE!  GET A LIFE AND WORK FOR YOUR MONEY!  Like the rest of us.  Stop trying to find someone with money to sue and stop hurting others and yourself; You will be the one hurt in the long run.  Whatsoever a man sews that will he also reap!  Scary to treat others bad.  It will come back on your front door step honey!  It is a law of God.  We should treat others as we would like to be treated.  Then again maybe this stewardess wants to be sued herself by someone at a later date if she wins this lawsuit and does someone crooked. Caused hemmoraoids??????  Must be a mental case.  Sad isn’t it!

This poor family having to go through embarrasment for years due to a money hungry lieing individual.  Can’t beleive anyone would believe her story!  Only negative people who love the negative would even consider this to be true.

Don’t believe a word of what the stewardess or airline is saying.  It is sad that the airlines has so much business that they don’t need to hire people to treat their passengers right.  That they have so much business they don’t need repeat business.
Businesses being nice to customers is fast becomming a thing of the past.  The problem is that many younger people want to party and are selfish and don’t want to work!  They have been handed too much on a silver platter without having to work for it, and they don’t want to work anyway because mom and dad will keep them up!  Why should they work?  How hard can wipeing a seat clean be?  Even if and I said if someone was rude, they would only be rude if they had to keep asking someone to do it.  I can’t tell you the times, I ask for something in businesses and they ignore me.  They will leave you as the customer standing there and not come back. Laziness is aggravating, and the lady wanted to sit down for the flight!!!!!  Just wipe the seat clean, and be nice!
