Today’s Video Buzz:  Louie Giglio/Chris Tomlin Church Plant?, Potter’s House, Prestonwood, & More…

Just what you need... my goofy face... but hopefully some good information...

OK… here are the links referenced in today’s video…

Louie Giglio & Chris Tomlin ‘planting’ a new church in Atlanta?!

Prestonwood Editorial on how they did the right thing during their recent pastoral scandal...

Gay Rights Day at Potter’s House (well, kinda)

TV News story on Church Forclosures and Churches that are Declaring Bankruptcy

John Piper and the New Seminary...

FOR YOUR RESPONSE:  I’d love to hear your comments on any of these stories.  Also, do you like the video format?  The main reason I’m testing it out is that it will allow me to cover more stories I think you’ll want to hear about, much more quickly than typing a blog post about each one.  Let me know what you think.  If it sucks, that’s an important thing for me to know!  (smile)

    Hey Todd,

I think the video intro works great. I’ve been a subscriber for years and I believe this is the first time I’ve ever heard you speak! I appreciate all that you do.

    Todd,

Great videocast!  Pretty cool idea… I’ve thought about it but haven’t tried it yet.

Nice little blurb about Tomlin/Giglio… we’ll have to keep our eyes and ears open for this one!

How big is Hotlanta again? Them starting a church there is totally different than us starting one here in our town. It’s not like they don’t do a lot there already and they are not on staff at Andy’s church. As for Andy..... he wasn’t the first one there in Atlanta.

Maybe Louie and Chris know there are greater things yet for Atlanta. That does not diminish what God has done and is doing there… through Andy and others. Must confess - I’m listening to God of this City… And there is no one like our God no matter who they are.

As for your video Todd… I like it. I’ve been debating posting the video I took on Saturday at our Love Granbury event. After seeing yours - I know I can post it… lol

As for Prestonwood and that whole thing.... our prayers continue to go out to all involved.

Like the video.  Easier for me too, listen while getting ready for the day, link on what is of interest to me.

What I noticed about the Prestonwood handling of sex abuse is that (according to the Dallas Morning News), Jack Graham didn’t seem to say anything about the accused.  Didn’t defend, didn’t vilify. Seems like he stated the consequences but didn’t say anything else about the pastor, but instead focused on the victims (the church).

I think it plays as excuse making, though it may not really be so, when too much shelf space is given to answering the question “what will become of our beloved pastor.”

Diggin’ the vlog - good stuff.

Yeah, it’s going to rain today!

Love the video intro Todd!  Your reaction after “Well...” re: the Soul Force deal was priceless and said more than your keyboard could have conveyed!

I’ll add my thanks to the others for doing what you do.  I look forward to this everyweek in my ‘inbox’ and there’s not lots I can say that about.

Count me in the minority, but I prefer text.  I can read through much more easily and get the point more quickly than trying to absorb video/audio.

    Todd,

Love the video idea, but one MAJOR suggestion:
    VIMEO!!!!

YouTube may be more popular, but can’t hold a candle to the quality and options available on Vimeo.com. Better video, better player, better everything.

Setting the camera on something steady wouldn’t kill it either… wink

    Okay,
    I’ll bite.

I don’t like the video format. I prefer reading the posts, not watching them. Funny, because I’m a “video” guy, but I’m less likely to view than read.

    Just me? Maybe.

Diggin the new video posts Todd.  Keep the info flowing.  You have helped me in trmendous ways!

    Todd,

I’m friends with the pastor at PW.  I thought the response showed no compassion for his wife.  Not one word was said about praying for her and their son.  Nothing.  Sad.

I like the quick video commentary, but man, get a tripod!

  • Hi Todd! Love the vlog… enjoy listening to your commentary while clicking links.  Found it fast and informative.

Appreciate the time you put into this!  Wish Louie and Chris were planting a church where churches are truly needed.  ATL has pleanty.  Invest that time, talent, and resource where the harvest is pleantiful but workers few!  Just my two cents.

I like the video because it personalizes you and removes some of that psychological distance the online academics talk about.  But I don’t know that I’d like it every time.

Todd, Love the video. Much easier to listen and chase my one yr old son in the morning than try to read. Thanks!

On the video front again.. I think it’s great to hear and see the person who is talking. Adds more to what they are actually saying than words alone can provide. (in this context of course..)

Peter Hamm: Talk about your Tuesday morning surprise? Good thing I was already sitting down.

I’m with the Peters. I’m a video guy, but I prefer the text. I don’t like to take the time to watch a full video, but like to stay in the loop by skimming headlines. It doesn’t help that I use Opera for my news feeds and it doesn’t like the embedded Youtube video. I can understand that it saves you a ton of time though, and the links (with bare description) are probably all I need anyway, so don’t stop on my account.

So my vote is text, but that may just be me and people named Peter. wink

I just want to know why you didn’t film in your kitchen? wink

I prefer the text version, but the occasional video would be cool. for instance, from today’s video I take away the following:

    1. What a huge yard you have!! So an MMI family picnic at your place is not out of the question. Potluck of course.

    2. Having seen the family photos, seeing you actually talk--it was surreal, like the man behind the curtain.

    3. Your yard looks big enough to have a football game between MMI fans and Slice of Laodecia fans. We’d stomp their heads. In the love of Jesus.

First off...love the video...you know you are one of the hottest bloggers on the ‘Net.  grin

Prestonwood is playing a game of “CYA”...which is what they should be doing for the good of the church as a whole.

Finally...being part of a worship event that catered to Christians is totally different than planting a church that will need to reach the unchurched.  I wish them the best of luck ...and will pray for their efforts...but the proof will be in the baptisms!!!

video is fine… especially if it saves you time. Nice to put an voice with the “voice.”

    Todd,

I liked the video, but would prefer the text. As mentioned above, I can get through the text much quicker than the video....but I love the “daily buzz” whether it is video or text...keep it coming.

I don’t know how strategic it is to plant a new church in Atlanta. I live 2 1/2 hours south of ATL and I am aware of some growing parts of the metro area. It seems to be pretty saturated with churches. It may not be the most strategic place for a church plant, but that is between them and the Lord.

    Todd,

Love the blog, dude. Thanks for all you do. As for the video, it took me four+ minutes to watch what I normally read (scan) in less than a minute. That being said, I recommend using video sparingly...maybe for something “special” from time to time.

    My two cents… smile

    Thanks!
    Mark
