When Push Comes To Shove… Church Antagonist Blogger is Physically Attacked?

Orginally published on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 9:56 AM
by Todd Rhoades

We've talked in the past here at MMI about how blogs are now being used in several churches to actively attack the leadership of local churches, demanding change. So has been the case with several blogs actively calling for changes in leadership at Bellevue Baptist Church. Now comes the report that a yet un-named "upstanding, long-time member" of the church has physically attacked on of the antagonist bloggers. Charges have been filed. So... this just takes it to the next level. And my question to you is...

(and don’t get me wrong here; I’m not advocating physical violence)… did this antagonist blogger have it coming?

Have you ever had someone in your church constantly press your buttons to the point that you just wanted to haul off and knuckle-punch them?

From what I’ve seen of some of these anti-leadership blogs, it would be hard to to want to punch someone.  I mean, how do you handle people who attend your church who publically denounce the leadership of your church.  I even saw a post earlier this week from a Bellevue Staff member (writing on condition of anonymity) telling how he was working from the inside to divert the senior leadership to the ‘right path’.

When push comes to shove, should you ever shove?  smile

Love to hear your input…

(Here’s the link, btw...)

Thanks so much Phil! Just like the message taught Sunday- we aren’t going to be able to please everyone but as long as we please God--- it shouldn’t matter.

You have been an answer to my prayer!

You’re very welcome and I really hope and pray that you continually go to God when you’re up at night wondering “what’s up?” or “Lord am I doing your will?” It’s those prayers that God loves most.

It shows a humbleness.  It shows a willingness to adjust.

    God’s peace,

PS Excuse my spelling and grammer.  I’ve got to take more time but life gets realy hectic!  lol

A big problem I see in church is that there is not a way for anyone to even express a concern if it involves the pastor or his family. If you speak to an under leader about something as simple as a wrong attitude you see, in 2 days you find out that you were reported for not being submissive. It’s almost like the Nazi Gestapo.

hk, i could write you a book about the junk that goes on in church, i went to a church a few years ago an assembley of god church, if anyone started anything in that church, the pastor would nip it in the bud right then and there, and you know somthing, very few people ever left the church.  the people knew he would not put up with a bunch of junk. and he played no favorites either, everyone spoke hightly of him. he was kind to every one. but he would not let THINGS get a foot hold in that church. i think we need a lot of pastors like him.

champ, the under leader is a wimp, the leaders can act nasty, but if you say anything they act like they are so holy and you are the outlaw, you have a right to be treated right, anyway if a pastor treats people badly the under leaders should find out whats his problem, and help him. the pastors are just human too. but so is the lay just people too. and the pastor is suppose to be the example, if being nasty is his example, he should not be suprised if someone follows him into nasty.

Deaubry- You are right we could use more pastors like him and church leaders too.

Hey Phil. . .I just wanted to give you an update on the situation at the church I’m a member of. . . God is in control. I’ve been praying for a while and He proved to me this Sunday that He is still in control of this church. Thanks again for the advice!
