I've read of a few churches doing 'animal blessing' services over the years. Watch this video, then let me know what you think. I guess we can pray for our pets... but is there any value in having them blessed? I guess I'm not sure what a blessing would achieve for my yorkie. She doesn't do anything all day except sleep, play, and chomp on her cow toe. Would she enjoy it more if she were officially blessed? What do you think?

figures it is a dallas church! we just can’t shed that ability to go to the extreme with everything - including pet ownership! have to go - teaching my dogs to pray before they eat.
Kill and eat Peter…
Forget blessing, I think my dog needs an exorcism.
Read Genesis 1. Read Isaiah 11.
The New Creation is not just a new humanity, it’s a new Creation. Just as we are invited to participate in that new creation, so also we are called to share that (as much as possible) with non-human animals. I think this is a lovely tradition.

Well I guess it’s practically the same if the pet is blessed or not blessed.

How can you speak against it… It IS “the carrying on of a TRADITION!”
Pet Blessings are a wonderful tool for inviting the unchurched.
I got one of the churches I work for into two different TV nightly news shows with film of their blessing ceremony.
It would have cost thousands of $ to buy that TV time, and we got it for free, and we reached tens of thousands of people who don’t go to church with a message that says not all churches are filled with hate.
Plus, it was a nice warm love-filled event.
One of my friends in ministry has a “BOB” Festival. Which is short for The Blessing of the Bikes.
Hundreds of bikers come to be prayed over with their motorcycles. I think it’s a great door to ministry.
We have a church in our area that does the animals thing, and we all joke about it. This isn’t a church that reaches people for Christ, so that’s not their purpose.
They link it with Francis of Assisi.
Not sure how blessing your Yorkie or goat will affect day to day living. Is this a remnant of farm days? asking God to give you a fruitful year?
