imageWhere Are They Now?:  Robert Tilton
According to an article in the Dallas News, notorious televangelist Robert Tilton left Dallas in disgrace more than a decade ago and has been quietly rebuilding his life in Miami... In 2009, an armed intruder in his home didn't make news.

In the go-go 1980s, after his evangelistic star had risen, a dramatic and potentially violent crime against Tilton would have made national news, but the Miami news media didn't even bother to report the incident.

After the home invasion, the Tiltons moved out of their 8,000-square-foot Miami Beach mansion and into a South Beach high-rise with 24-hour security. They put the house on the market for $6.9 million.

Know the 10 Commandments?  You Could Win $20,000
Darrel Rundus is distressed that Americans readily can tick off a list of 10 stores, 10 sports teams – even 10 beers, but there's a collective "Uhmmm" when those same people are asked to cite the Ten Commandments. To change that, he said, he and his wife decided to do "something a little crazy." They are taking $20,000 of their own money and posting it as a prize that either will be dispatched via casher's check or wire transfer to the first person who, on Monday, Oct. 26, answers his random telephone calls and can recite the Ten Commandments in order in 20 seconds or less.

imageChristian School:  You Can’t Graduate ‘Cause You Went to the Prom
OK... so this is happening less than an hour from where I live, and is getting a good amount of local press. So... this kid goes to a Christian school all his life, then decides to go to the local high school prom with his girlfriend. The Christian School then decides to not allow him to graduate because he has gone against the school rules. According to the school, the reasoning being that rock music "is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds." According to the school principal: "When the school committee ... set up the policy regarding dancing, I am confident that they had the principle of fleeing lustful situations in mind ... should a Christian place themselves at an event where young ladies will have low-cut dresses and be dancing in them." Give me a freaking break...
KJV Only Preacher Tazed at Border Patrol:  You Can’t Make This Stuff Up!
Remember this guy? Well, this week he had a little altercation with the border patrol. So, now I guess we can add the border patrol to list of those people this preacher doesn't like (Perry Noble, and men who pisseth sitting down are also on his list).

Here's the CNN report on this incident.

This might be the only time allowable by scripture to pisseth sitting down. I'm just saying that tazer might do that. (Thanks to @kentshaffer for the heads up on this one!)

Why do pastors leave the ministry? Several common issues emerge from the research of Dean Hoge and Jacqueline Wenger: preference for another form of ministry, the need to care for children or family, conflict in the congregation, conflict with denominational leaders, burnout or discouragement, sexual misconduct, and divorce or marital problems. Of these factors, which form the basis for the central chapters of Pastors in Transition, two are especially important: conflict and a preference for specialized ministry. A close third is the experience of burnout, discouragement, stress and overwork. As the authors explore these factors, they provide significant insights into what can be done to help people stay in ministry. imageEat This Book: A Conversation in the Art of Spiritual Reading
