Daily Innovation, Ministry Insights, and Thoughts from Todd Rhoades for Pastors and Church Leaders
Eric Swanson shared this morning over at the Leadership Network Learnings Blog this quote from David Smith: "The church must forever be asking “what kind of day it is today?” for no two days are a like in her history." To be in step with what God is doing, all leaders need is the ability to understand “what kind of day is today?”
Eric continues…
You probably remember the men of Issachar from 1 Chronicles 12:32 “who understood the times and knew what Israel should do.” Understanding the times was critical to knowing what they should do. They were committed to living in and understanding the “now” so they would know what to do.
In Luke 12:54-56 Jesus poses this question to the crowd, saying: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?” Interpreting the times is a coveted skill set of leaders…because no two days are ever alike. To understand the times, we must know how to exegete the Scriptures but also exegete the times we live in.
